San Tan Valley: Arizona's newest town
For years, San Tan Valley was one of the largest unincorporated communities in Arizona. That changed on September 17, 2025, when the Pinal County Board of Supervisors appointed the first town council and San Tan Valley officially became a town, Arizona's 92nd municipality. Residents had worked toward that since their first incorporation attempt in 2005.
The community takes its name from the nearby San Tan Mountains. It sits in northern Pinal County, about 47 miles southeast of downtown Phoenix, just past Queen Creek. The 2020 Census counted 99,894 people in the San Tan Valley area, up from 81,321 in 2010. Mailing addresses use the 85140, 85143 and 85144 ZIP codes.
Good to know: the new town's limits don't cover every address with a "San Tan Valley" mailing address. We confirm whether a home is inside town limits or in unincorporated Pinal County, because that can affect services and future taxes.

- Mountain views and open space. San Tan Mountain Regional Park covers more than 10,000 acres, from creosote flats to saguaro forest, with trails and a nature center.
